CRG (i-SENSYS) or C-EXV (imageRUNNER)?
This is the first question to resolve. The CRG cartridges (“Cartridge”, e.g., CRG-052, CRG-719) equip i-SENSYS printers and multifunction devices (LBP and MF ranges), aimed at office use. The C-EXV toners (e.g., C-EXV49, C-EXV54) equip imageRUNNER (iR / iR-ADV), professional production copiers and multifunction devices. The two systems are not compatible with each other.
How to read a Canon reference
For i-SENSYS, the reference takes the form CRG-xxx, sometimes followed by an H for high capacity (CRG-719 vs CRG-719H). In color, each cartridge exists in black, cyan, magenta, and yellow (e.g., CRG-046). For imageRUNNER, the C-EXV toner is often a large-capacity bottle, specific to a generation of devices.
