Konica Minolta Toner: TN, Developer, and Imaging Unit

Konica Minolta equips offices with Bizhub multifunction devices, but its consumables are among the most confusing on the market: on the same color device, three different parts need replacing. Knowing how to distinguish the toner (TN), the developer (DV), and the imaging unit (IU) helps avoid unnecessary and costly purchases. This guide helps you choose the right Konica Minolta toner. To identify your cartridge, use our Find Your Toner tool; for basics, see the guide to choosing your toner.

Toner, Developer, Imaging Unit: Three Consumables to Distinguish

This is the brand’s major specificity. On color Bizhub devices, you find: the toner (TN), which contains the ink and is replaced most often; the developer (DV), the magnetic developer that carries the toner and lasts much longer; the imaging unit (IU), which includes the drum and lasts even longer. A fading print first calls for a toner change — rarely the developer or imaging unit, which are much more expensive. Confusing these three references is the number one purchasing mistake on Bizhub.

Reading a Konica Minolta TN Reference

The toner carries a reference TN-xxx (e.g., TN-321, TN-324, TN-611), usually followed by the color (K for black, C, M, Y). The same Bizhub thus uses four toner references in color. The number identifies the compatible device generation: always start from the exact model (C224, C308, C451…) if in doubt.
