Xerox has a particularity that few buyers know and that causes costly mistakes: the distinction between Metered and Sold. Metered or Sold: the distinction not to miss
Xerox distinguishes two circuits. Metered toner equips machines under a page-count billing contract (managed fleet): the cartridge communicates consumption. Sold toner (retail sale) equips machines purchased outside of contract. A printer configured as Metered generally only accepts Metered cartridges — and vice versa. Always check this label before buying.
How to read a Xerox reference
Toners have codes like 106R03048 or 006R01731. The prefix (106R, 006R, 108R…) and the number identify the cartridge and machine. Some older ranges (ColorQube) used solid ink sticks instead of toner — do not confuse them.
