PoE Budget Calculator (802.3af / at / bt)
The PoE budget calculator below checks if a PoE switch can power all your devices (IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points, IP phones). Enter your switch's PoE budget and your equipment list: the tool calculates the total required power and the available margin.
Value indicated in the switch's datasheet (e.g., 370 W for a 48-port PoE+ switch).
Understanding a switch's PoE budget
The PoE budget is the total electrical power a switch can distribute across all its ports. If the combined consumption of your devices exceeds this budget, some ports will stop supplying power. Allow for a safety margin of about 20%.
PoE standards and their power
| Standard | Name | Power per port | Device side |
|---|---|---|---|
| 802.3af | PoE | 15.4 W | ~12.95 W |
| 802.3at | PoE+ | 30 W | ~25.5 W |
| 802.3bt Type 3 | PoE++ | 60 W | ~51 W |
| 802.3bt Type 4 | PoE++ | 100 W | ~71 W |
