The RAID calculator below estimates the usable capacity, fault tolerance, and efficiency of your array based on the RAID level, number of disks, and their size.

Understanding RAID levels

RAID combines multiple disks to improve performance, data security, or both. Each level offers a different balance between usable capacity, fault tolerance, and speed.

Level Usable capacity Tolerance Min. disks
RAID 0 100% (n × size) None 2
RAID 1 50% (mirror) 1 disk 2
RAID 5 (n − 1) disks 1 disk 3
RAID 6 (n − 2) disks 2 disks 4
RAID 10 50 % 1 per mirror 4

The choice depends on your priorities. To learn more, read our RAID level guide. For hardware, see our hard drives and SSDs, our servers, and our storage bays.

Indicative estimates; actual capacity depends on the controller and formatting.
