Product Overview
The Cisco® RV042 Dual WAN VPN Router (figure 1) is a network sharing solution
advanced connection, ideal for SMB needs.
Like any router, it allows multiple computers on your site to share a connection to a private or public network.
Additionally, with its two WAN ports, the Cisco RV042 router allows you to use a second connection as a
backup to always stay connected or as a second provider access solution to increase bandwidth
and balance traffic.
The Cisco RV042 router also includes a 4-port 10/100 full-duplex Ethernet switch to connect four PCs
live.
You can also connect more hubs and switches to create a network as large as
as needed.
The VPN capability creates encrypted "tunnels" over the Internet, based on IPsec (IP Security) or PPTP
(Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol), giving you the ability to securely connect up to 50 mobile users or
when working remotely to your professional network.
Users who use a VPN tunnel are connected to your company network (with secure access to files,
to email and your Intranet) exactly the same way as on-site users.
You can also use the VPN features to allow users on your small network to connect securely

The Cisco RV042 router can act as a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server and includes a powerful firewall
stateful packet inspection (SPI) to protect your PCs from intruders and the most common Internet attacks.
It also supports the Cisco ProtectLink Web security service, which helps block malicious websites
and to control Web access to protect your business.
Setup is easy thanks to the Web utility.
