The WS-X45-SUP7-E is compatible with all Catalyst 4500E Series chassis: 4503-E (3 slots), 4506-E (6 slots), 4507R-E and 4507R+E (7 slots), 4510R-E and 4510R+E (10 slots). Models with "R" support supervisor redundancy. Note: this module is not compatible with older 4500 Classic (non-E) chassis. Make sure you have an E-Series chassis before purchasing.

The SUP7-E offers 848 Gbps compared to 848 Gbps for the SUP8-E but less than the SUP9-E (1.44 Tbps). Its main innovation compared to the SUP6-E is the support of 48 Gbps per slot (vs 40 Gbps) and the native integration of Flexible NetFlow. The SUP7-E remains an excellent choice for campus and aggregation environments with an optimal performance/price ratio, especially second-hand to modernize an existing infrastructure without changing the chassis.

Yes, absolutely! The 4507R+E, 4507R-E, 4510R+E, and 4510R-E chassis support the 1+1 configuration with two identical supervisors. The primary supervisor manages all operations while the secondary remains on standby. In the event of a primary failure, the NSF/SSO (Nonstop Forwarding / Stateful Switchover) failover occurs seamlessly in a few seconds without session loss, ensuring maximum availability for your critical applications.

🌐 How many ports can a switch with this supervisor support?

The SUP7-E can manage up to 384 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000 ports, 196 Gigabit SFP ports, or 100 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports (including the 4 uplinks from the supervisor), depending on the line cards installed in the chassis. The exact capacity depends on the chassis configuration (number of available slots) and the chosen line card modules. All ports benefit from non-blocking bandwidth of 48 Gbps per slot.

⚡ Is PoE and UPOE natively supported?

Yes, the SUP7-E fully supports PoE+ (802.3at, 30W) and UPOE (60W) on all compatible line cards simultaneously, provided the chassis has sufficient power supplies. The chassis must be equipped with appropriate PoE power supplies (for example, 6000W or 9000W power supplies depending on the chassis model). The supervisor intelligently manages power distribution and prioritization in case of high consumption.

💾 Which version of IOS should be used?

The SUP7-E requires a minimum of Cisco IOS XE version 3.1.0 SG.
